Growing from the Ground Up

Weymouth's Mayor Hedlund and Brewster Ambulance celebrated the ground-breaking of its new corporate headquarters on May 6th, 2016. The new location at the corner of Route 53 and Main Street is replacing the old Weymouth Auto Mall/Ricky Smith Pontiac dealership property, purchased by Brewster in late 2013. The property was converted to a satellite location used for garaging ambulances and staging equipment for outfitting new ambulances.

A sunny but cool day for the official ground breaking. In this ground-turning photo from left to right are Jordan Brewster, George Brewster Sr., Mackenzie Brewster, Mark Brewster and Weymouth Mayor Robert Hedlund.

The old building was demolished in December, 2015, after much planning and working with Weymouth town officials to finalize construction and board of zoning special permits for noise abatement.

Since the 35,000 square foot property will serve as the company's headquarters, the building will contain ample office and meeting space for administration and operations staff—much needed for the growing Brewster Ambulance, with nearly 900 on the team. The facility will also house an additional EMS training and education center for Brewster Ambulance as well as customers and partners.

Garaging will also be a portion of the building, and ambulance activity will mainly focus on non-emergency, prescheduled service for nursing home and medical facility transports.

When Brewster Ambulance was awarded the emergency 911 contracts for the cities of Quincy and Brockton in June of 2015, the pre-demolition property came in handy for prepping the new ambulances and staging new equipment setups from stretchers to EKG monitors to supply kits, blankets and the cuddly teddy bears for pediatric patients. It provided the space to organize and pre-flight all of the newly-purchased equipment for the emergency contracts, which have been running with great success since the July 1, 2015 start dates.

Construction of the new corporate headquarters is expected to reach completion in the spring of 2017. Brewster Ambulance's Hyde Park Avenue location in Jamaica Plain currently used for garaging, dispatch, administration and operations will remain a Brewster Ambulance location in addition to the 17 other regional locations.

A nod to Weymouth's Revitalization

Weymouth welcomes Brewster Ambulance's new growth anchor as part of it's overall plan to becoming a more vital, attractive and economically healthy community. Weymouth is one of the top ten Complete Streets communities, which include planned roadways that are safe, accessible and comfortable for all users, regardless of demographic or mode of travel. By implementing a Complete Streets policy, towns and cities are able to improve transportation choices for all citizens, promote economic development and enhance public safety.

In addition to Brewster's new headquarters providing additional tax revenue to the Town, the increase in Brewster team activity will help local businesses flourish and add to the overall support of the community.
