Brewster Ambulance Service utilizes a customized Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system in both of our updated multi-station dispatch centers located in Boston, Brockton and at the corporate headquarters in Weymouth. This CAD solution brings superior efficiency to Brewster’s dispatch control, vehicle tracking and data collection for performance measurement.
Brewster’s communication centers feature internal and external backup systems and redundancy, ensuring that dispatch operations will function without interruption under any circumstance. We maintain continuous communication with our vehicles through radio, cellular and GPS. This reliable and tested technology, as well as back-up generator support for an unlikely power outage, ensure efficient, 24/7/365 communication with all parties involved to care for and transport patients.
Brewster Ambulance Service communication centers use this CAD technology to rapidly identify the closest available resource, thus reducing the time it takes to dispatch a transport. The CAD system’s capabilities also include configurable response plans and time stamps for all events, which allows Brewster to measure communication center and field personnel performance based on key points in the response, such as the time on scene and total transport time.
In addition to the review of CAD data, Brewster communication center activities are monitored and evaluated by recording all radio and cellular communications. We also capture and analyze the time it takes to initiate a call in the system, so we can identify gaps where we can improve to create more consistent, reliable performance. We collect and report on data such as vehicle on-time performance, average answer time, average talk time, and compliance to medical dispatch protocols. All Brewster Ambulance Service communication centers personnel are EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) trained and certified.
